What are you working for?

Every individual and every organization work. They work individually or in collaboration with others to achieve. To achieve a target or a goal.

What you aspire to achieve for?
What you work for?
It is your objective, your goal, your desired result.

When an objective is desired to be achieved and work is done for it, there needs to be some characteristic features for the objective.

When there is more clarity of the objective to be achieved, the action plan then becomes clear and easy to be assessed and monitored in longer range and accomplishment of the goal becomes easier.

In this post, I will describe about the various essential characteristics or features of an objective, and how to go on to incorporate the same.

Make your objective SMARTER.
Specific – What is it that you want to achieve? When you know what you want to achieve, you will do things which will help you to achieve it. If you want to buy a huge house, you will accumulate enough wealth to do so.

Measurable – How much of it do you want? People say I want to have a peaceful time. It all then comes down to what is it that you will call as peace and how much of peaceful time do you want to have. You cannot have what you cannot measure. Either you will have less of it, or the more of it.

Acceptable – Will you and others accept the end result or the objective that you are pursuing? Will it be something that is desirable? If not, it will be wise enough and appropriate to not to pursue it and rather focus all the resources for better results.

Realistic – Do you believe that you can achieve your objective? If not then the chances of you not being able to achieve it are much higher. You need to believe that achieving the objective is possible. Working with such a belief increases the probability of success.

Time-frame – How long are you going to dedicate to achieve this objective? When you set a time limit, you set yourself a target to achieve the objective. A constant review during this time-frame will show how long you are from the goal. And also, if the time extends, then rather you can start focusing on other results.

Extending – Do you have to stretch yourself for the achievement of your goal? An objective should not only help you to get desired results, it should also help you to grow more. When you can achieve more by growing more, you become more. Your objective focus should be in such a way that you achieve more, and en-route of it, you become more than what you are, what you are capable of.

Rewarding – How will you be awarded with a reward? When the objective is rewarding, it motivates higher performance and evokes interest in continuing to pursue that goal.

So, how SMARTER is your objective, and how SMARTER are you working?

To become SMARTER, take a separate sheet of paper for every objective that you have. Then answer all the above questions. Read this page frequently till this objective of choice is achieved. This exercise will increase the probability of your achieving success.
